Project Story
On behalf of the Council, we secured full planning permission for 22 homes. This was a 100% affordable scheme to be operated by the Council. It is currently under construction and once completed, will provide a much-needed mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom flats and houses.
Our Planning Journey
New Forest District Council were both applicant and determining authority in this case and we played an important role as an independent consultant, liaising with both on matters relating to the planning application.
Having identified the key issues via pre-application discussions, we worked with the wider consultant team to finalise the layout and technical reports required for the planning application.
Public consultation was undertaken in the form of an exhibition where local residents and Members could attend. This was a positive event where the proposals were well received.
This led to a recommendation for approval and approval by the Planning Committee.

Making a difference
This scheme will boost the delivery of Council owned and operated affordable housing in the district, something for which there is a significant need. It will help to provide more accommodation options for local people.
The scheme will effectively utilise and tidy up a brownfield site, formerly occupied by the vacant buildings associated with Hythe hospital which are surplus to NHS requirements. It will deliver a high quality and attractive residential development, enhancing environmental quality overall.
