Originally built in the 1930s, facilities at the school were no longer suitable for a modern curriculum. The new building replaced a former building on the site and includes an Innovative STEAM Centre and accompanying outdoor sports pitches.

Our involvement commenced with the urgent submission of a detailed pre-application and ongoing support of the competitive bid process for a proposed replacement school building to provide a 1,510 place all-through school. The pre-application needed to be robust to confirm the suitability of the proposals, to ensure a successful bid and to ensure a subsequent successful planning application.

Our involvement also included matters related to the demolition of the existing 1930s school building, which although it is not a listed building, it is a non-designated heritage asset. We were also appointed to assist with community engagement and the discharge of pre-commencement planning conditions to enable the early remediation of the site.

Mayfield School was in urgent need of replacement and it was clear from the community engagement how excited the pupils and staff were about the project.

We needed to act fast to secure planning permission in a timely manner to ensure the school opened on time. We are pleased that our approach achieved this and the school has been well received.
