The need for care accommodation provision for the elderly is a requirement across the Country, particularly giving the acknowledged ageing population.
A Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) was produced by the Council in 2014 and this estimates need for specialist housing for older persons both now and in the period leading up to the year 2029. In particular there is an estimated growth of 43% for elderly housing, including care home homes throughout the plan period.
Frontier has commissioned consultants Christies & Co to undertake a further assessment of this need and the full details of this will be shared with the planning submission documents.
A summary of this assessment concludes that there is a significant unmet need within a 10km catchment of the site to which the provision of the proposed care home can help to meet, allowing local residents to remain in the area.
