The Gallops, Westgate-on-Sea, Kent
Hybrid application for up to 2,000 dwellings, a two-form-entry primary school,
health facility and mixed use local centre
Client: Millwood Designer Homes
Planning Authority: Thanet District Council
Project Status: Planning Application Preparation
Our role
Our involvement commenced with the successful promotion of the site through the local plan, including representation at the local plan examination in public, and securing the allocation of the site in the Thanet Local Plan for up to 2,000 homes, open space, associated retail, land for a primary school and medical centre along with highway improvements. The local plan is scheduled for adoption in spring 2020.
We also led the coordination of the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Statement, and coordinated the pre-application and planning application submissions.
The site comprises 96 hectares of open farmland abutting the southern extent of the built form of Westgate-on-Sea and Garlinge, near Margate, Kent. The proposed development will be the subject of a major hybrid planning application seeking outline planning permission for the whole site and full planning permission for 120 dwellings (Phase 1) in accordance with a strategic allocation in the Emerging Local Plan. The application is to be submitted in spring 2020 and is the result of extensive consultation undertaken with local residents, Thanet District Council, Kent County Council and stakeholders.
