Mayfield School, Portsmouth
Replacement school building
Client: Kier Construction Southern
Planning Authority: Portsmouth City Council
Project Status: Planning Permission Granted
Our involvement commenced with the urgent submission of a detailed pre-application and ongoing support of the competitive bid process for a proposed replacement school building to provide a 1,480 place all-through primary and secondary school. The pre-application needed to be robust to confirm the suitability of the proposals, to ensure a successful bid and to ensure a subsequent successful planning application.
Our involvement also included matters related to the demolition of the existing 1930s school building which although is not a listed building it is a non-designated heritage asset. We were also appointed to assist with community engagement and the discharge of pre-commencement planning conditions to enable the early remediation of the site. Development has commenced and the new school is set to open in September 2021.
- Pre-application submission in January 2019
- Meetings with planning officers and stakeholders
- Community consultation with local residents
- Planning application lodged late June 2019
- Planning application approved early September 2019
- Development commenced November 2019
Gillings Planning took a really proactive approach to the planning application, resulting in a Planning Committee approval being secured within 10 weeks of the application being submitted; this really helped our development programme and will help the delivery of this new school building"Derek Ward, Kier Construction Southern
